Meet the Doctors

Mark Saxen, D.D.S., PhD

Dr. Mark Saxen has provided office-based anesthesia in the dental setting throughout the Indianapolis area for over two decades. Dr. Saxen received his undergraduate education at the University of Notre Dame and his DDS degree at Case Western Reserve University, later completing a two-year residency in Anesthesiology and earning a PhD in Pharmacology from the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. Following his residency, Dr. Saxen relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1993, where he established Indiana Office-Based Anesthesia. 

 

In addition to his practice, Dr. Saxen held longstanding faculty appointments in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as the Department of Oral Pathology, Medicine, and Radiology at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He also held the position of Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the Indiana University School of Medicine in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Pharmacology. He continues to teach part-time as a special consultant in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. 

 

A diplomate of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology since 1996, Dr. Saxen is also a past President of the American Dental Board of Anesthesiology and American Society of Dentist Anesthesiologists. As an active lecturer and author, he has spoken nationally on a variety of topics and has published several peer-reviewed publications related to the safe delivery of anesthesia in the dental office.

Jay R. Miller,

Dr. Jay R. Miller brings a deep and diverse mix of clinical anesthesia experience to Indiana Office-Based Anesthesia. After graduating from Indiana University school of Medicine in 1985, he completed his internship at Clarian Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, followed by his residency in Anesthesiology at Indiana University Hospital. 

Dr. Miller subsequently served as a staff anesthesiologist for several years at LaGrange Surgery Center and Goshen Ambulatory Care Center, where he provided anesthesia for a wide variety of surgeries and procedures on children and adults. Having served as the Medical Director of the Hancock County Center for Pain Management, he managed patients with acute pain, chronic pain, cancer pain and other pain-related disorders. 

As a longstanding diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a member of several professional societies on both local and national levels, Dr. Miller continues to be involved with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Medical Association, Indiana State Medical Association, International Anesthesia Research Society, and Indiana Society of Anesthesia.
